No. 280 - No. 282

history

Victorinox developed the series with the numbers 280 – 281 around 1910/1920. The 1922 catalog lists models No.280 and No.281. At that time, the number 281 was basically the model no. 280, simlayer because the blade could not be closed, but was fixed. The model no. 281 was no longer produced a short time later. From the 1950s the number 281 was used for the model number 280 with an additional protective bar. In the 1930s the knife with the number 282 was added. The difference between numbers No.282 and No.280 was the shape of the scale. When opened, this pocket knife either had a semicircular shape like a "C" (No. 280) or a curved shape like an "S" (No. 282). Originally, these pocket knives were called " tree wound cleaners ", later "tree rippers". They were used to mark trees. The protective bar on model no. 281 served to prevent the backs of the fingers from being injured on the tree bark and at the same time served as protection against the blade closing. This protective bar could be opened and closed.

These models were produced until the 1960s.

construction

These models were 1-layer pocket knives. The blade used to mark the trees was always attached to the head rivet. The other 2 rivets attached the back spring and scale. A special notch was cut into the wooden handle, in which the blade head rested when it was closed.

Victorinox used various types of wood, especially beech, as the scale material for these models.

Liners/spacers/rivets

The rivets and liners were made of steel, later made of brass.
