history
Victorinox since the late 1950s. From 1958 the Alox developed Pioneer line, and in this context also other parallel models, with corrugated aluminum scales. Model No. 2231 is very similar to model No. 240k, which has been in production since the 1940's, but has a small cutting blade in place of the bottle opener. The model with the bottle opener was produced until around 1980, after which the tool was replaced by the combo tool.
The model is still produced, but with cellidor scales and toothpick/tweezers, which was not the case with the variants with aluminum scales.
functional parts
In addition to a large cutting blade, model no. 2231 has a bottle opener (later combo tool) and a saw. Models with aluminum scales never had the addition of toothpicks/tweezers. Model no. 2231 was available with or without a key ring, and later only with the key ring.
material thickness
Large cutting blade: 2.5 mm; saw: 1.8 mm; Bottle opener: 1.5 mm (later combo tool 1.4 mm)
construction
The model no. 2231 is a 2-layer pocket knife. The lower layer is identical to that of model no. 2230 (large cutting blade; screwdriver). The upper layer consists of the additional saw. The variants with aluminum scales have no circuit liners. The saw is fixed to the foot rivet.
scale material
Classic scale material is aluminium, silver or red ribbed. In addition, variants in smooth aluminum and Cellidor were produced for advertising purposes.
Liners/spacers/rivets
The model no. 2231 does not have any liners (except for the version with Cellidor scales ). The spacers and rivets are made of nickel silver.
