No. 70

history

Victorinox developed the No. 70 model in the 1920s. It was one of the most popular models ever for a long time. With the introduction of aluminum scales, it was used on a large scale for advertising purposes.

functional parts

The model no. 70 had a small cutting blade in addition to a large cutting blade. The model was available with the bail/key ring option.

material thickness

Large cutting blade: 2.4 mm; small cutting blade: 1.2 mm; Rivet: 1.6mm; in later versions: large cutting blade: 2.0 mm; small cutting blade: 1.0 mm

construction

A central rivet fixes the symmetrical back spring. The large cutting blade moves on the head rivet, while the small cutting blade and the intermediate layer are fixed on the base rivet.

scale material

The Model No. 70 was available in countless variants of scale material. In the beginning, in addition to celluloid/ cellidor, steel was oxidized black, horn, tortoiseshell, mother-of-pearl and engine-turned steel were used. Later, corrugated or smooth aluminum in various colors was used.

circuit liners/interlayer

Brass or nickel silver was used as the liner material. The same material was also used for the liners and rivets. In each case one material was consistently used, ie either all parts (liners, intermediate layer, rivets) made of brass or all parts made of nickel silver.
