history
Like the other silver Alox pocket knives from the pioneer series, model no. 2210 first appeared in the Victorinox catalog in 1969. It was a 2-layer model. Instead of the can opener of Model No. 2220 (soldier's knife), it featured a narrow screwdriver. It was officially produced exclusively with silver scales. A large buyer of model no. 2210 was the Swiss Federal Railways SBB. For this company Victorinox made special model No. 2210 with an engraving plate on the upper scale engraved with SBB.
The slim screwdriver remained unchanged in design and function throughout its history. There were differences in the blade stamps and in the material used for the liners and intermediate layers.
functional parts
Model No.2210 had a large cutting blade, a small and a regular screwdriver, and an awl. This model did not come with a shackle/key ring.
material thickness
Large cutting blade: 2.8 mm; Awl: 1.8 mm; narrow screwdriver: 1.8 mm; normal screwdriver: 2.25 mm
construction
The lower layer of model no. 2210 is identical to that of the soldier's knife model no. 2220 (awl and large cutting blade). The upper layer consists of narrow and normal screwdriver. The latter moves around the head rivet together with the large cutting blade, the other 2 tools around the foot rivet.
scale material
Victorinox used silver aluminum as the scale material.
Liners/spacers/rivets
The intermediate layers and board consisted of brass, later of nickel silver; the head and foot rivets are made of nickel silver, the center rivet is made of aluminium.
