The model no. 2224 has a similarly long history as the model no. 2220. It is the only known model besides the no. 2220 that Victorinox made with the old external awl. So it should have been in production since around 1956/1957. It was the standard No.2220 model with an additional saw. This made it one of the few models in the Alox - Pioneer line without special tools such as a sewing awl, hooked blade or narrow screwdriver. There are different variants of model no. 2224, which show the course of history: external awl (up to approx. 1959), + PAT can opener up to 1971, bail in front of key ring, brass liners in front of nickel silver liners, etc. The original color was red anodized.
Model No.2224 had a large cutting blade, a screwdriver and a can opener, as well as an awl and a saw. This model came with the shackle/key ring option.
Large cutting blade: 2.8 mm; Awl: 1.8 mm; Can Opener: 2.25mm; Screwdriver: 2.25mm; Saw: 1.8mm
The lower layer (large cutting blade, awl and the upper layer (can opener and screwdriver) are identical to model no. 2220. The middle layer consists of the saw. This rotates around the head rivet with a large cutting blade and can opener. The foot rivet is the optional bail/key ring attached.
Victorinox used red anodized aluminum as the scale material.
The intermediate layers and board consisted of brass, later of nickel silver; the head and foot rivets are made of nickel silver, the center rivet is made of aluminium.
