No. 240

history

Victorinox developed the model no. 240 around 1900 or shortly before. As one of the few early models, it also had a specific name in addition to the number, namely " Cure-Pied " (French) or " Horse -Pick" (English). There was no German name. The characteristic hoof cleaner has filing grooves on the underside and on the sides to care for the nails.

The model last appears in the Victorinox catalog from 1932 vir. Variants made of rust-resistant steel never seem to have existed. The model underwent little or no change during the production period of around 30 years.

Compared to model no. 205, the 6-piece army knife, the additional charge for the additional hoof cleaner was high. Around 1910, model no. 240 with a bracket cost CHF 7.85 compared to CHF 5.65 for model no. 205.

Later the number 240 was assigned to another pocket knife, which was produced in the variant number 240 k in 84 mm.

The model no. 240 had a screwdriver, a can opener, a corkscrew, an awl and the hoof cleaner in addition to the large and the small cutting blade. There was a model with or without a bow and with or without an inlay of a cross/shield.

construction

This 2-layer model was the only Victorinox officer's knife with 5 visible rivets. The head rivet holds the large cutting blade and screwdriver, the foot rivet holds the small cutting blade and can opener. A center rivet attaches the awl and corkscrew, the 2nd center rivet attaches the back feathers, and a third, external, center rivet attaches the hoof cleaner.

Victorinox produced model no. 240 exclusively with fiber scales.

Liners/spacers/rivets

The liners are made of aluminium, the intermediate layers and rivets are made of steel. Brass may also have been used.
